An order of knights – also called an chivalric order or knightly order – is a sacred community bound by honour, duty, faith, and service. Rooted in the medieval concept of chivalry -  monachus et miles (monk and warrior), these knightly societies combined religious devotion with military service, dedicating themselves to Christian values and charitable missions.

The earliest knightly orders were founded to protect and assist pilgrims traveling to the Holy Land, embracing vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. Members lived in fellowship, defending pilgrims, engaging in military campaigns, and supporting the Christian Church. Recognition by the Pope through approval of their rule made them true religious institutions under canon law.

A genuine order of chivalry is not only history - it is a living tradition. It is a fellowship of men and women committed to the code of knighthood, faith, and charity.

Knighthood in Modern Age

Welcome to the Knights of Saint Thomas, a revived chivalric order preserving tradition of one of the oldest Christian and English institutions. Inspired by the historical order of knights founded at Acre in 1191 in honour of Saint Thomas Becket martyred Archbishop of Canterbury, this brotherhood carries forward a sacred legacy of faith, service, and honour.

We are:

  • A patriotic, ecumenical, and self-governing non-profit organisation.
  • Non-political, non-Masonic, and open to all recognised Christian denominations across the United Kingdom.
  • Dedicated to upholding the noble ideals of English knighthood while serving modern communities.

As a Christian brotherhood, we honour the legacy of the English crusaders while adapting its timeless values to today’s spiritual and social needs.

Our Mission as a Modern Chivalric Order

What began in July 1191 as care for sick and wounded warriors continues today as a legacy of Christian service and charitable work.

As a modern knightly order, we:

  • Support those in need and communities throughout England.
  • Honour veterans and armed forces.
  • Support St. Thomas Hospital and other charitable institutions.
  • Provide educational workshops, community events, and spiritual fellowship.

By bridging the past with the present, our order of chivalry gives living form to the ideals of courage, faith, and charity in everyday life.
